These natural Moissanite crystal were too scarce and tiny to set into jewelry. For years, scientists tried in vain to re-create these rare and extraordinarily brilliants crystals.  Only recently, through the power of advanced technology , Moisaanite is now available to you.

  • How is Moissanite created?

Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) about Moissanite Fine Jewelry

  • What is Moissanite?
Moissanite is a naturally occurring mineral, silicone carbide. It was discovered in 1893 By Henry Moissan in a meteor.  Since there are almost no supplies of this mineral on earth, scientists have created synthetic Moissanite in Lab.  In 1995, Many jewelers realized Moissanite make an ideal gemstone.  It is such a good substitute for diamonds that many jewelers can not easily recognize the deference between a diamond and Moissanite gemstone.
  • Is a Moissanite engagement ring right for me?
If you are on a budget; yes, definitely consider looking into this gem.  The biggest pro of Moissanite gemstone is its cost.
Pros: Moissanite gemstone is less expensive than a diamond.  It is more durable and brilliant than a Cubic Zirconia, CZ. Moissanite is actually more refractive than a diamond, giving it more brilliance and fire than either a diamond or a CZ.
Cons: Moissanite can be slightly green or gray rather than colorless, especially in bright daylight. You should make sure you examine a potential Moissanite stone under a variety of lighting conditions, and that you know the store “
Return Policy.” While Moissanite is less expensive than a diamond, it is still more expensive than cubic zirconia. Also, it is incorrect to characterize Moissanite as a “fake” diamond.
  • Why Moissanite?  Why not Cubic Zirconia or other diamond stimulants?
There are two types of cubic zirconia: 1) Machine manufactured cubic zirconia, and 2)  Hand-cut cubic zirconia.  The machine made CZ is usually hazy, and not brilliant.  The hand cut ones are more of a suitable substitute for diamond, but it still does not have the brilliance of true diamond or Moissanite. Cubic Zirconia are less durable; CZ register about 9.0 on the Mohs hardness scale and Moissanite about 9.25, compared to 10 for a diamond.  This is an important factor for an engagement ring which is worn daily. The other stimulated diamond, such as paste, glass, or quartz are not desirable since they are poor substitutes.
  • Will my Fiancee become disappointed or upset at not getting a genuine “diamond” engagement ring?
First, remember that a Moissanite gemstone is not a fake diamond, but rather a mineral that looks similar to diamond.  You would not call a “pink Tourmaline” a fake “pink Sapphire”, would you?  So, you should think of it as a “Moissanite Engagement Ring”, and free yourself from the negativity.
Buying an engagement ring is a personal thing, and every couple has different priorities.  Most jewelers have done a great job convincing people to have diamonds, so your fiancee may be disappointed! Why not propose without a ring, and later discuss all your options, and what you can afford? She or he may prefer having a smaller diamond ring instead of a large Moissanite ring, or maybe love the idea of saving money on a gorgeous ring.  You should talk to her friends or family about choosing an engagement ring, if you really prefer to propose with an engagement ring in hand.
  • Is there a Warranty for Moissanite?
Yes, there is. Charles & Colvard, the sole worldwide source of Moissanite Gemstone, stands behind its high quality moissanite products. Each and every Charles & Colvard created Moissanite (TM) jewel comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and limited Warranty guaranteeing you, The Jewelry Hut valued customer, of the quality for which Charles & Colvard and The Jewelry Hut is known.
