The diamond 4 Cs; Carat, Cut, Clarity, and Color are the basic characteristics that determine the quality and value of a diamond.
A) Diamond Carat Weight A diamond’s weight is measured in Carat. Carat is a unit of measurement equal to 200 milligrams. Do not confused the term “Carat” with term “Karat,” which is used to measure the purity of gold.
B) Diamond Cut Diamonds are cut into numerous shapes. The only one of the 4 Cs that is within human’s control is a diamond’s cut. Cut refers to the geometric proportions to which a diamond is crafted, usually by an experienced master diamond cutter. Once a diamond’s shape has been determined, facets are cut. It is these facets that refract light like a prism and produce the stone’s fire and brilliance. There are many factors that go into a well cut diamond. It must be cut to precise and angles; it can not be too shallow or too deep; its facets must align properly; its surfaces must be polished to a mirror like finish.
